genuinely sounds like something straight from JSR
lario was the real sneaky snitch all along (memes aside, jesus christ this sounds very true to the game, good job)
Honestly, you nailed the vibes of a track in such genre perfectly - the somewhat empty yet eerie build-up, and the drop with the constant gritty bass playing, while other elements are supporting it. To be fair, the vocal sample is a little bit excessive in terms of how often it gets repeated, and I think it would solidify the drops way more without it constantly playing, because the main draw of such a subgenre of dnb, is, well, purely drums and bass. I think a good example of a nice balance of such stuff is Gyrofield's music (even though it's mainly foghorn dnb, but it's pretty similar in my opnion), with the tracks like Out Of My Mind, Fallen In Deep and Repeater Riff being pretty nice examples of what I mean
I think you nailed the rhythms perfectly, and the combination of them with the sound design honestly reminds me of the DMC 5 OST, the sharp saw plucks with solid rhythmic "call-and-response" phrases really give off a similar feeling. However, I feel like the bass is really weak, and perhaps could be distorted and/or layered more, because the low end is pretty lacking, which makes the track feel somewhat empty, even with all this stuff on top. Either way, great job!
I really enjoy the unique approach you took with this - while it is mainly classified as liquid dnb, the sound design just screams jungle-inspired breakcore that focuses more on atmosphere, and I'm such a huge sucker for stuff like this.
While I do think that the breakdown between "drops" is a bit too long, I really like how different the drops are purely because of one element that changes the whole vibe, which is a very nice touch imo
The 90's had it all, I'm telling you. Like I wrote in prior comments, check Shifty or Goldie—that was avantgarde back then, and to me, it still sounds fresh. Appreciate your thoughts, cheers 🙏
